Stephan Weiland is born and educated in Freiburg, South Germany. During his study of Literature and Philosophy he starts working in local off-theatre and cultural campaign groups. He works as dramaturge and as director at the Theater im Marienbad, Freiburg. Since 2001 he lives as free-lanced director, author and dramaturge for theatre and script editor for film in Berlin, working for several stages in Germany and abroad. He is artistic director of "theaterboxring lichtenberg", a neighbourhood based theatre initiative. He was artistic director of the Iranian – German theatre performance "Last Feather of Simurgh". He at last directed ”Incidents” by Russian absurd author Daniil Charms and "Childhood/ Kindheit" based on autobiographical fragments at the Theater im Marienbad, Freiburg; ”The Coffee House” by R. W. Fassbinder and "Dachniki/ Sommergäste" by Maxim Gorki in Berlin-Lichtenberg.
